Franklin, KY - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barbara Lee Farmer, a beloved resident of Franklin, KY. Barbara left this earth peacefully and gained her heavenly wings while holding the hand of her granddaughter, Carrie on Wednesday, May 13th, 2026, at the age of 86, at the Hopkins Nursing Center in Woodburn, KY.
Barbara was born on September 13th, 1939, in Simpson County, KY to the late Robert Marion Riddle and the late Nellie Creola Tuttle Riddle. Barbara lived a full and enriching life dedicated to her family and community. Barbara was a devoted homemaker whose love and warmth were the cornerstone of her family's life. Her homemaking talents extended beyond her immediate family as she was known for exceptional skills in baking cakes and pies, raising a beautiful garden, canning, and crafting exquisite quilts. Her home was a haven for
comfort and joy where many cherished memories were created and shared. Barbara was the family historian as she loved to reminisce about the good ole days while looking at pictures and she had a story to go with each picture.
Barbara was a member of Faith Baptist church in Franklin, KY. Barbara was a former member of Simpson County Rescue Squad where she extended her caring compassion to those in need. Her kindness, humility, and tireless dedication to helping others will be fondly remembered.
Barbara is survived by her loving daughter, Sharon Gail Cassetty (Steve) of Franklin, KY and Susan Carol Hobbs of Portland, TN. She was a proud grandmother of five grandchildren, Carrie Cassetty (Dylan Sims), Steven Cassetty, Dillon Henderson (Kylie), Gracie Hobbs, and Terry Hobbs Jr. She is also survived by her dear sisters, Judy M. Crabtree (Jimmy) of Portland, TN, and Peggy J. Crump of Franklin, KY; brothers-in-law, Ben Farmer and A.J. McCoy, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Marion Riddle and Nellie Creola Tuttle Riddle; her late husband, Johnny William Farmer; her brothers, Frank Edward Riddle, Lloyd Allen Riddle and Paul Robert Riddle; infant sister, Mary Elizabeth Riddle, her sisters, Vonnie Pearl Graves and Barnettie Ann McCoy.
An extension of loving care was provided to Barbara in the later times of her life by her sisters, Peggy Crump, Judy Crabtree, great-nieces, Lucia and Gabrella Chavez, Vicky Henson, Portia Combow, the BRADD office providing home delivered meals and personal care via Comfort Keepers staff, her Hospice care team (Dr. Michael Byrne, Payton, Amanda, Lindsey, Elizabeth, Jeff, Jacklyn, and Jamie), and the caring staff at Hopkins Nursing Center.
Visitation at Gilbert Funeral Home & Crematory in Franklin, KY, was held on Tuesday, May 12th, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and again on Wednesday, May 13th, 2026, from 6:00 am to 3:00 pm. A funeral service to celebrate Barbara's life will be held at Gilbert Funeral Home & Crematory on Wednesday, May 20th, 2026, at 3:00 pm. Interment will follow in Sulphur Spring Cemetery in Simpson County, KY.
