Christiana, TN - James Thomas "Jimmy" Duggin, age 78, of Christiana, TN, passed away peacefully at home. He was born in Shelbyville, TN, to the late Sam and Johnnie Duggin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life and high school sweetheart, his wife of 52 years, Peggy Duggin; as well as his brother Doyle Duggin and Doyle's wife, Lynda.
Jimmy is survived by his two children, Lisa Gatewood (David) of Murfreesboro and Aaron Duggin of Christiana; two grandsons, Tanner Duggin (Hailey) of Christiana and Cole Duggin (Sydney) of Christiana; and the joys of his life, his two great-grandsons, Carson Duggin and Levi Duggin. He also leaves behind his brother, Wade Duggin of Murfreesboro; sisters-in-law Linda Cook of Shelbyville and Carolyn Demonbreum of Murfreesboro; brother-in-law Ricky Reed (Sue) of Shelbyville; as well as many nieces, nephews, and a large extended church family.
James Duggin graduated from MTSU in 1967 with a Bachelors in Industrial Technology. He and Peggy were married in May 1967.
Seargent (SGT) Duggin served in the United States Army from 1969 - 1971. Most of that time was as the company clerk with Company C 2ND Battalion 4th Infantry Division of the United States Army in Germany. Awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter M-14, Expert Mortor, and Marksmanship with a Pistol. SGT Duggin was honorably discharged from active duty in 2971. After his active-duty commitment, he served on Ready Reserve until his final discharge in 1975.
Jimmy faithfully served Southeast Baptist Church in Murfreesboro since 1977 in numerous roles, including deacon, member of the finance, building, and maintenance committees, and through his dedicated work with Bethlehem Marketplace. His service to his church and community was a cornerstone of his life.
Early in his career, beginning in 1967, Jimmy worked as a foreman and later became part owner of Parsley Brothers Construction Company, where he remained until 1992. He then founded JTD Construction, which he later merged with Aaron's excavating to form Duggin Construction, LLC in 1996. He retired in 2009.
Jimmy grew up on a farm in Shelbyville and remained a farmer throughout his life. He also enjoyed many years of bass fishing and teaching others the joy of water skiing.
Jimmy will be remembered for his devotion to family, his faith, his hard work, and the countless lives he touched through his generosity and friendship.

Visitation will be at Southeast Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, TN on Monday, December 8th from 3pm to 7pm. Services will be held at Southeast Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, TN on Tuesday, December 9th at 11am followed by internment at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Murfreesboro, TN with military honors.
