Charlotte, TN - Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon, June 13, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. with Chaplain Jeff Wagner officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday, June 13th beginning at 12:00 Noon until service time. Place of rest will be in the Leech Cemetery in Charlotte, TN.
Those desiring, memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Foundation or to the Autism Society of Middle Tennessee.
Mary Elizabeth Keele Overton, 99, passed away peacefully at her home in Charlotte on June 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on October 13, 1926, in Nashville and raised in Dickson, she was the daughter of Roy and Zilpha Weems Keele. She had one brother, Roy Keele Jr. She attended school in Dickson where she enjoyed playing basketball and swimming at Montgomery Bell Park. She later met and married Ewing Larkins Overton who had returned home after serving in the Navy in WWII. They were married 62 years.
They had five children, Trudy Overton, Faye (Frank) Clark, Sandy Springer Overton, Angela (Åke) Elhammer and Nathan (Pat) Overton. She has five grandchildren, Mary Sweeney, Erik and Ylva Elhammer, Nathan and Locke Springer, and two great-grandchildren, Jack and Patrick Sweeney.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother.
Mary loved the Lord and professed her faith through the Episcopal Church. She had a deep devotion and love for her family and relatives. She enjoyed meeting and talking with people (she was a "people person"). She enjoyed cooking for family in her historical home. One of her greatest joys was traveling throughout the U.S. and internationally with her family. She had a passion for antiques and ran her own antique store called the "Spotted Horse Antiques" in Charlotte. She was an avid reader, loved storytelling, singing, and horseback riding with friends.
Pallbearers will be Erik Elhammer, Nathan and Locke Springer, Patrick and Jack Sweeney, and David Adams. Honorary Pallbearer, Gary Keele and Michael Weems.
